There’s two rooms in a home you should always pay attention to when buying or building.

If buying an existing home, the state and size of the kitchen and the bathroom will determine if you are willing to renovate them, live with them the way they are or whether you will walk away and find something better.

When building a home, the kitchen and bathroom will be the spaces you put the most thought into, and in this instance you have the freedom to customise them to how you want them, depending on your budget, that is.

And that’s where builder display homes, such as Rossdale Homes’ Rockleigh come in handy, so you can visualise how a space will look and take inspiration from what you see on show.

The Rockleigh, which is on display at Aston Hills estate at Mt Barker, is a four-bedroom, two-bathroom family home that spreads out in generous layout and has 305sqm of space.

Suitable for a large family, the Rockleigh is a design you might choose as your forever home, and its highlights are undoubtedly the ensuite bathroom and the beautiful kitchen.

Both spaces are well-appointed and immaculately presented. The kitchen is a fabulous example of how to create a modern zone while giving it character and charm, while the master bedroom and its ensuite show how you can create a luxurious space in a private zone.

Rossdale Homes’ sales manager Denny Havriluk says the Rockleigh’s ensuite is a desirable, tranquil retreat featuring a freestanding bath, a separate shower, warm timber tones on the vanity, accent tiling and strip lighting that adds a soft glow to the room.

“There is floor-to-ceiling feature tiling which also gives this room a grand feel,” Denny says. “The ensuite vanity can be viewed from the main bedroom, so we have made this look more luxurious for that reason as well as practical with the double vanity bowls.”

Accessed via the double-sided walk-through wardrobe from the master bedroom, it is tranquil and extremely private – a feature parents may appreciate as they relax and recuperate after a long day at work.

Move out to open plan living zone and the stunning Shaker-style kitchen is centrally placed so it looks over the dining area, casual lounge and adjacent undercover alfresco.

A long, wide island bench is the heart of this functional space, which has been beautifully finished in a Caesarstone benchtop, 2pack paint and a glass splashback. Hidden behind the kitchen, a long butler’s pantry can almost get missed, and it cleverly blends good storage with the convenience of shelving and a second sink.

“The kitchen has a solid benchtop with undermount double bowl sink with slab ends either side of the island cupboard,” Denny says.

“There’s also feature open timber shelving to the back of the island cupboard.”

Denny says along with the kitchen, his favourite part of the Rockleigh design is the open plan living and dining, which has two sets of sliding doors to the alfresco, making the home great for families and entertaining.

“With two sets of sliding double doors you will be able to see any views from this area,” he says.

“With the large pantry behind the kitchen, it takes away the clutter than can happen in the kitchen.”

This home boasts three separate living areas, and as well as the dining and family lounge, there’s an open front lounge off the entry, plus an IT room in the second wing of the home.

“This house flows extremely well to suit a family lifestyle, for example the children’s wing at the back of the home with the separate IT/study room is perfect privacy for kids, and when entertaining friends, children can have their own space too,” Denny says.

As you walk through the Rockleigh, the extra wide Parador Trendtime 6 blackbutt laminate floorboards create a traditional feel that I love, and 2.7m ceilings are always an impressive find.

Other worthwhile features include integrated hallway storage, detailed cornices and architraves, and a double garage with two separate doors to the front and a sliding door for access to the rear yard.

Denny says the Rockleigh showcases many of the beautiful finishes available to Rossdale clients but it’s those in the kitchen and ensuite that will make visitors stop and contemplate their next renovation or home build.
