Ricky Carruth is a real estate agent, speaker, author and real estate coach. He started selling real estate at 20 years old in 2002, became a self-made millionaire by 23 and bankrupt by 25. During that time, he read over 100 books searching for the reason he lost it all. After realizing the problem he started building his business the right way by valuing relationships over transactions. Since then, he hit #1 for RE/MAX in Alabama three times selling over 100 properties a year since 2014. Ricky still sells full time and started real estate coaching agents for free in 2017. He mission is to share what he learned from his downfall in hopes to reduce the failure rate in the real estate industry.

  1. Ricky, it’s absolutely true about “phone call Karma.” I noticed this 3-6 months into my career which started in February of 2019. Whenever I would engage in the process of making calls to build relationships for an extended period of time, (extended might mean a few hours over a couple of days) opportunities of various sorts would literally come out of the universe. Sometimes, it would be from the calls themselves and sometimes, like you said, you might get a referral out of nowhere, but good things happen. Some might call it God, but if that makes people uncomfortable, then maybe it’s the universe. But when multiple people on the same path are experiencing it, it might mean it’s time to get on the path.

For people who say they aren’t experiencing this, despite them doing tons of work, I’m not going to call them liars, as maybe that is their real experience. However, what I would love to do is take a real close look at what their complete day-to-day looks like over at least two weeks time, because I’m shocked if they say they put in the type of work I’m describing for two weeks straight and good things for their business just didn’t start coming towards them.

The only thing I’ll add to this is intention. I’ve noticed that the results seem to be best when my intentions are to truly build relations and truly help people. If I’m thinking too hard during these calls about my bottom line, the results appear to be less fruitful. I have to literally be fully engaged in the PROCESS and for the of the sake of the process.

I’ve had the absolute worst luck in my business completely be reversed for good when I apply everything I’ve described here. Having a a bad day? A bad week? A bad month? Horrible luck your entire career? Try committing to build relationships daily with the intention of helping people. It changes things.

  2. The Karma thing is real. It has happened to me multiple times just like you described it.. out of nowhere you get a call from someone who found you some how or because they remembered you called them many months ago. I love it
